Hello Readers, I have written about What is a custom domain? and How to set up a custom domain on blogger? in my previous posts.

Now in this post i will tell you of advantages of a Custom Domain.

Advantages Of A Custom Domain
A Custom Domain can give you only three things which i have described below:

The ability to access your blog using a non BlogSpot URL.
The ability to integrate your blog with Google Apps, which gives you accessories such as a domain based email address.
The ability to integrate a custom domain published blog with any non Blogger / Google web based service that interests us.

In my opinion the first two advantages are really worthy comparing the price of a domian.

Using a non BlogSpot URL will look professional and also it is easy to remember.
With the help of Google Apps you can create a domain based email address which will look like a website email address:

mail.yourblog.com

I will explain it in my later posts on how you can create a domain based email address.

Final Thoughts
By using a custom domain you can boost your blog to a next level and make it similar to a website.

What Is A Custom Domain?

When you first create a blog from blogger.com it will give you the address of your blog something like this:

http://yourblog.blogspot.com

This is fine if your blog is new and have not so many visitors but when you will start getting traffic and your visitors will increase that sub-domain of your blog looks unprofessional and also users have to type yourblog.blogspot.com.

Custom Domain:

Custom domain is use to change the address of your blog from http://yourblog.blogspot.com to http://www.yourblog.com. This address looks more professional and also looks attractive as it is a top-level domain and not a sub-domain.

If you really want to run your blog and you are working on it daily then my opinion is to shift on a custom domain. Using custom domain on your blog is not so much expensive. There are numerous sites available who can give a domain + extra features for as low as 8$ per year.

I am asking to shift on a custom domain in start because if you give 1-2 years of your work on your blog with sub-domain after that you change your domain to a top-level domain then any increase in pagerank or search engine positions will be lost also you have to start publicity of your new address from start.

Anyways the choice is yours !

How To Show Or Hide Some Labels In Labels Widget?

There were not any hacks available to show or hide only some labels in labels widget until blogger introduces this feature in labels widget of blogger.

You can use this feature to show only few labels from all available labels in your blog. I ll show you how to do this.

Insert a Labels Widget in your blog.
Before clicking on save button, tick on "Selected Labels" radio button instead of "All Labels" as shown in the image below.
When you click the "Selected Labels" button an "edit" button will appear just below it click it and a new window will appear allowing you to select which labels you want to show or hide as show in the image below.
After you have selected which labels to show or hide hit "DONE" button.

There you go a new labels widget has been added to your blog but showing only those labels that you want to show.

How To Remove PostCount From Labels Widget? -Easy Way-

There were numerous tutorials (hacks) of removing or hiding PostCount from labels in blogger. But after sometime blogger officially upgraded Labels widget in blogger adding the option to hide PostCount from labels so the user don't have to mess with template coding. I ll show you how to do that very easily.

Add a Labels Widget In Your Blog. If you don't know how to add a Labels Widget refer to my tutorial How To Add Labels Widget In Blogger?.
Now when u have added Labels Widget click on Edit, This will show you Configure Labels window.
Remove the right mark from "Show number of posts per label" as shown in the image below:

This will remove PostCount from labels in your blog.

To apply a label to many posts at once login to Dashboard and click on Edit Posts. This will bring up the list of posts. LiVEJOURNAL was one of the first blogging services available, having been around in some form or another since 1999. It has changed ownership multiple times since, but continues to exist. At the moment it has some 15 million blogging accounts, with most being based in the USA and Russia. The idea behind LiveJournal is to take all the hard work out of running an online blog. All you have to do is create and account and post journal entries, letting LiveJournal take care of the hard work, such as server hosting and web page creation. This is ideal for an internet novice or for somebody who doesn't have the time to invest in the more complicated side of running a blog. Each blog entry you create is posted on its own page, where users can post comments critiquing your entries.

What are the differences to other applications?

LiveJournal completes with other blog services, such as Blogger. While it may have more advertising than Blogger, it does have a social networking aspect, where you can add other blog authors as friends, but one has to wonder how useful such a feature really is in a blogging service.

How does the application look and feel to use?

The blog editing area of LiveJournal has a slightly dated look and feel, with cluttered navigation and intrusive advertising. Everything you need is there, and more, it's just a case of finding it. The front end of your blog, front end meaning the bit that your visitors see, has a customizable look and feel, allowing you to choose from a plethora of built in templates and themes.

How does the registration process work?

The registration process is easy, although LiveJournal can be quite particular regarding the procedure. You must specify a password containing either a number or a symbol, which can be a pain if your usual passwords contain neither. Investigate the packages TypePad offers and current pricing before you commit to using TypePad as your blogging software. Features

Depending on the TypePad package you buy, you'll have a different amount of features available to you. With all packages, at least one author is able to write posts, upload photos and include some forms of advertising on their blogs. More expensive packages provide more customization options, more space and the ability to create more than one blog on a single account.

Ease of Use

One of the key benefits of choosing TypePad as your blogging software and host is the fact that even the most novice blogger can easily get a new blog up and running very quickly. The software is very intuitive, and customer support is excellent.

WordPress is open source blogging software, and WordPress.org is where you can go to download it. WordPress.org offers free downloads of WordPress files, themes and plug-ins, and includes step-by-step instructions for installing and configuring WordPress on your own hosting provider.

WordPress.org Pros:

The advantage of this approach is that you can install any of the WordPress templates or plug-ins available, and customize your site so that it doesn’t look like just another me-too blog.

You have complete control over the look and feel of your site
You can install any WordPress plug-in to extend the functionality of your site (believe me, this is a very powerful and inexpensive way to add functionality to your website)

WordPress.org Cons:

In order to do use WordPress this way, you’ll need a few things:

A hosting provider that allows you to have MySQL databases and FTP access. You can find good hosting for about $6.95/month at Bluehost, 1and1 and many other hosting providers. I use both of these providers and they have been great.
Knowledge of how to use FTP to transfer files, create a MySQL database, and edit configuration files. WordPress.org has a 5-minute install guide, and a quick read through this will tell you if you can do it on your own or not.
You need to manage your own backups. (However, there are ways to automate this easily.)

If this approach sounds like a lot of work to you hang on – as you’ll see below many of the hosting providers have automated most of this to make it easier for you.

WordPress.com

WordPress.com provides a quick and easy way to get a blog online. You can go sign up and create a WordPress blog immediately, for free. This is a multi-user version of WordPress that hosts thousands of blogs.

WordPress.com Pros:

Easiest way to get started
Pick from list of available themes
Hosting is free (there is a $15/year charge to use your own domain name)

WordPress.com Cons:

The downside is that you cannot upload your own themes and plug-ins, and according to their FAQ you cannot use it to post Adsense ads or affiliate links. They also say that they may occasionally show Google text ads on your site.

Must choose only from their list of themes available, and you cannot customize them directly
Cannot install plug-ins to extend the functionality of your site
Sometimes they show ads on your site

In the past, I’ve bumped into some of those limitations when trying to customize the look and feel of a blog, and when trying to install some of the neat plug-ins available. I think WordPress.com is a great way to start a hobby or special interest blog, but for small businesses it is very important to have control over the look of their website, so it doesn’t look like a generic blog.

Posting Content

Price is often a concern for bloggers. Blogger.com is completely free to users. All of the features and services available through Blogger.com are offered free-of-charge to all users.

Choosing a blogging software can be confusing because on the surface, the various blogging software products such as Blogger, Wordpress, TypePad, Moveable Type, LiveJournal and more are quite similar. Some features about them are as follows:

Features : Blogger equals easy. Many novice bloggers choose to start their first blogs with Blogger because it's free, very easy to use, and it allows ads to help monetize blogs. The downside of Blogger is it's prone to outages, so you may not always be able to access your blog when you want to.

Features : Wordpress.com is a free blogging software that provides a limited amount of customization by way of free templates you can download for your blog. I will answer the question "What Is A Blog?" in a very simple way:

A blog is a type of website that is usually arranged in chronological order from the most recent ‘post’ (or entry) at the top of the main page to the older entries towards the bottom.

Blogs are usually (but not always) written by one person and are updated pretty regularly. Blogs are often (but not always) written on a particular topic – there are blogs on virtually any topic you can think of. From photography, to spirituality, to recipes, to personal diaries to hobbies – blogging has as many applications and varieties as you can imagine. Whole blog communities have sprung up around some of these topics putting people into contact with each other in relationships where they can learn, share ideas, make friends with and even do business with people with similar interests from around the world.

Now that you understand the URLs to find the various site-wide feeds for your blog, and how to add variables to change them, you would probably like to offer these feeds to your readers so that they can subscribe to them. You can add these feed URLs to your template like any other link, either as a text link, or an image link. Here are some examples using feeds from BlogsBar, with an explanation of how they are achieved:

A text link to the main BlogsBar posts feed, changed to RSS format, summarized with 100 maximum results:

This is achieved by adding this section of code, which you could use in your sidebar:

In my previous articles i have written about how to finding your blog feeds and how to customize it to suit your needs. Here are some of my previous articles.

If you would like to add more than one variable to your blog feed urls, you can do so by inserting an ampersand (&) between the variables, as in these examples:

http://yourblog.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default?alt=rss&max-results=100
http://www.yourblog.com/feeds/comments/summary?max-results=10&start-index=5
http://yourblog.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/full?alt=rss&max-results=15&start-index=2

In this case, you do not need to add the question mark (?) to all of the variables, only the first one to be defined. The browser understands that variables will be added when you include the first question mark after the regular feed url, so you don't need to add any more!

You can change the settings of your blog feed, be it for the posts or comments feed, by changing elements of the URL and adding variables to it. The variables you can change are:

The feed type (Atom/RSS)
The maximum number of results (posts or comments) that are displayed.
The amount of text displayed (summary or full)

So let's look at the feed URL in another way:

http://yourblog.blogspot.com/feeds/[posts/comments]/TYPE/[variables defined here]

The feed type (Atom/RSS) and the maximum number of results are defined using variables which are added to the end of the URL. The amount of text displayed is controlled by the TYPE section within the default url.
In this post i will show you how you can change the maximum number of results displayed in feed.

To change the maximum number of results displayed in feed, Variables at the end of the feed URL are used to change the maximim number of results to be displayed. This can be any number from 1-999, and is defined by adding ?max-results=[insert number here] to the end of the feed URL. Here are a few examples:

http://yourblog.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/full?max-results=100
http://www.yourblog.com/feeds/comments/summary?max-results=10

By default, the feeds will return with a start index of 1; that is, they begin with the first newest post or comment. If you want to skip a few results, and start with the third post/comment for example, you can change this by adding ?start-index=3 to the end of the feed url, like this:
